THE MYSTIC QUEEN

BOOK TWO

WIZARDS AND KINGS

SYNOPSIS

First Published April 2007

The rebellion is over.

Its armies crushed.

Its heroes dead.

What then should Jacquelyne Van Dyne, more lately known as the warrior Dark Slayer do in a land of magic, mystery and adventure?

Surviving the battles of the rebellion Jacquelyne finds herself alone for the first time since her arrival in the magical world. Believed dead she begins to explore the world in which she has found herself in.

Experience with her the all the reality of a medieval Fair together with the glory and disappointments of a tournament.

Follow with her the challenges of a knight and the suffering of a servant and throughout it all her struggle to avoid the slow realisation that she has been brought to these lands for a reason.

Events again conspire to force her to reveal to her enemies that she is still alive. When she does so, it is in spectacular fashion with an audacious raid on the dungeons of the RoyalPalace at Vilyavada, the greatest city of the Western World. There Jaq rescues Yazd, the man she first met in this world and, for the first time, fights hand to hand with the man who has become her main enemy, the wizard Lord Edmund Darcey. The outcome is a surprise for both of them!

In the time of healing that follows more is revealed to Jaq of the Lands, the world she is now in, and its history. Realisations begin to form as to why she may be here.

The secret cabal of Wizards that she had opposed now are beginning to step out from behind the thrones they control. Edmund Darcey declares himself king of Calahorra and begins a slow dominance of the people. Yet the knowledge that the Dark Slayer still lives haunts him causing her to be hunted across the countryside of Calahorra meeting new allies, enemies and learning just how far the wizard will go to capture her.

Her adventures lead her in and out of the company of outlaws and eventually to the northern Calahorran town of Newham. Here Jaq lingers long enough in the household of Lord Parvaine, the town administrator, for her enemies to catch up with her.

The battle comes to the town and the forces of the Wizards appear initially successful, however, alone, desperate and angry Jaq inspires the town to fight back achieving a remarkable victory that is only tarnished by personal tragedy.

As the book builds to its conclusion Jaq and a select band pursue the remaining soldiers of the Wizards on a desperate race to free their prisoners before they reach the evil stronghold of Istria.

There is success and failure in her quest and the book concludes with small snapshots of the Wizards preparing themselves to conquer the Western World anticipating little to oppose them.

As to whether their belief is correct only reading the third book of the series, Merom’s Tale, will reveal.
